Look at markets and geographic trends, in other words, what markets will be growing in the future, and what industries will be growing and hiring people in the future and are these places that I want to work. Good places for research are government agencies, city Chamber of Commerce, Large company web pages (they list open jobs), and technical societies. Some helpful links are listed below.

www.monster.com. One of the largest databases for jobs in the world. They also have several sections on market trends, salaries, and help with finding a job.

www.careerbuilder.com. Another popular database for job seekers with articles and information on the job seeking process.

www.hotjobs.com. Popular job board with open jobs with companies world-wide.

www.craigslist.com. A list of all jobs and companies hiring in the San Francisco Bay area.

www.google.com. Largest search engineer that will pull up articles and companies that provide job seekers with valuable information.

www.salary.com. A good sight to run calculations on salaries by job title, region, and years of service.
